A fantastic position is available for an IMG looking for their next step within the NHS. The position is for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine.
The two successful candidates will join as Specialty Doctors in Emergency Medicine. This is an excellent opportunity to join a NHS Foundation Trust within 30mins of Central Manchester.
The specialty doctor posts will support the A&E middle grade rotaa. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver emergency clinical care with the support of consultants. You will provide clinical, administrative, supervisory, educational and training support for the day-to-day functioning of the department. Most importantly, you will have responsibility for clinical cover of the shop floor. The post holder will be expected to participate fully in this rota.
The Department hold monthly structured Clinical Governance meetings and departmental meetings, which the Specialty doctors are expected to attend and contribute towards giving successful candidates opportunity to develop outside of their clinical hours.

The hospital provides a wide variety of high quality services within the core hospital and the local community caring for both adults and children. This opportunity is best suited for A&E doctors who wish to join a smaller emergency department that caters for a population of approximately 250,000 people. The Emergency Department provides a 24-hour service, and see approximately 100,000 emergency cases per year including paediatric emergencies. The Urgent Care family includes an Acute and Integrated Assessment Unit, a GP Assessment unit and an Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit. There is also a co-located urgent treatment centre.

The successful appointees will work as Specialty Doctors in Emergency Medicine with the opportunity to progress their career through CESR. This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving University Trust in the North West. The hospital care for a variety of emergency cases, including paediatric emergencies offering a 24/7 service. This opportunity is best suited for A&E doctors who wish to join a smaller emergency department – successful candidates will be given real responsibility within the emergency department as senior members of the clinical team. At the same time, the opportunity to develop within a supportive environment through consistent mentorship from the Consultant body. Support structures are in place for international candidates as well as doctors with UK experience.
You will join a team of 10 (soon to be 13) middle grade doctors within the Emergency Department and as a specialty doctor you will be responsible for running the shop floor on night shifts which may commence after an initial shadowing period. You will join 8 other Specialty Doctors working under the consultant body and will report to consultants as and when you require their support. Your supervision and support extends to the Clinical Fellows and juniors within the ED. Day-to-day, you shall be responsible for resuscitation, diagnosis and emergency treatment of all cases that present in the ED. You will be responsible for participating in the 1:4 weekend rota to ensure the ED meets national and local standards for 24/7 cover.
The job plan is 10 sessions per week, with the option of additional PAs if you wish to discuss this with your clinical supervisor. Middle grade doctors are welcome if they wish to work additional hours above 40 per week, however there is no pressure to work more than 10PAs.
You shall benefit from dedicated non-clinical time within your job plan, to help develop your skills. The offer attracts 1.5 SPA per week, which can increase to 2 SPA over time, especially if the candidate wishes to take on additional responsibilities – for example, we are inviting our Specialty Doctors to volunteer for roles such as Trauma Lead, and Resus Lead. The department promotes a work/life balance for all the middle grade doctors therefore additional hours are optional, and non-clinical time spent on personal development is encouraged.
The locally employed doctors with a Royal College degree are encouraged to progress through CESR, and the Emergency department benefits from its own designated CESR lead who has successfully stepped up to consultant level via the CESR pathway himself. The Clinical Lead is also involved with the on-going development of the specialty doctors, and CESR secondments will be arranged from year two, if required.
The Northwest is one of the most desirable locations to live in the UK for international medical graduates. You are very close to the beautiful Lake District in this location which is ideal for a weekend break especially if you enjoy the outdoors. The Lake district is famously known for its glacial ribbon lakes, rugged fell mountains and historic literary associations.
We are a University Trust which operate from three main hospitals, two of which have fully established 24/7 emergency services and Critical/Coronary Care Units. We have a separate Urgent Treatment Centre which assist with non-life threatening conditions. All three hospitals offer planned care including outpatient and inpatient services, diagnostics, therapies and inpatient surgery. We also have community facilities that have a range of local outreach services and diagnostics. Both our A&E departments have full trauma unit accreditation but additionally, we partner with the regional Major Trauma centre for complex trauma cases.
