Senior Clinical Fellow in General Paediatrics
This a fantastic opportunity for a doctor who is looking to join a supportive trust with an excellent onboarding process for overseas doctors.
The trust will initially start you at SHO grade before moving you onto the Registrar rota when you are comfortable. The clinical experienced offered will be ideal to help prepare for postgraduate examinations or for wider professional development.
Main Duties:
As a Senior Clinical Fellow in General Paediatrics, you be expected to:
- Participate in the 14-person full shift rota.
- Work within the team to provide on-going high-quality care for inpatients and seeing referrals in the Children’s Observation and Assessment Unit or in the Emergency Department.
- Attend ward rounds, out-patient clinics and visit to individual patients as necessary.
- Take part in the supervision of the work of junior medical doctors in the Paediatric wards, the assessment unit, the postnatal wards, the delivery suite and the clinics.
- Attend the “post-take” ward rounds with the Consultant on-call.
- Participate in teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, nurses and paramedics where appropriate.
- Ensure children are fit for discharge.
- Become acquainted with management protocols for Paediatrics and help to update them.
- Fulfil the duty of the weekly timetable including any out-of-hours responsibilities.
- Share responsibility with colleagues for the day-to-day management of the paediatric department.
- Ensure delivery of a high-quality Paediatric service.
- Have awareness of the public health aspects of children’s health.
- Attend meetings as appropriate.
The Hospital:
The offer holder will be working in the largest Acute Trust in the Northwest of the UK, rated “Good” by the CQC.
This position will offer exposure to a very diverse range of cases. The Paediatric service cares for many children with a variety of complex and rare conditions, as well as those with more common problems.

The Trust is located in a large modern town in the Northwest, with a population of around 150,000. It is a multicultural area, popular with overseas doctors for the following reasons:

Consultant in Community Paediatrics
The successful candidate will join a well-established team of doctors to carry out child development and neuro-disability assessment at a regional scale. The applicant will be part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing a comprehensive service with patient care at its heart.
The Job
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Undertake Child development and neuro-disability assessments
- Contribute to safeguarding clinics and be present in medicals for suspected neglect and abuse
- Participation in medical examinations for urgent sexual abuse cases
- Be involved in clinical audit for areas of interest and sub-specialist expertise
- Coordinate care for chronic, special and complex needs e.g. neutralizability, epilepsy, genetic disorders

- GMC Registered with full MRCPCH
- Experience In neutralizability and child developmental assessment

Clinical Fellow in General Paediatrics
We currently have a Clinical Fellow position for a Paediatrician in the North West of England. The NHS Teaching hospital is extremely supportive with a history of specifically supporting Internationally trained doctors with first position in the NHS. They will also allow time to work as a Junior Fellow until SCF competencies are completed and then you will be able to move onto the Registrar rota. This position would ideally suit someone already in the UK as looking for a quick start.
The post:
- The posts will provide excellent opportunities to gain training in general paediatrics and neonates at a registrar level.
- The post holder will have the option of gaining further subspecialty training in various paediatric subspecialties of their interest including epilepsy, cardiology, allergy, diabetes, respiratory medicine, nephrology, neonatology and community paediatrics. This would be provided through allocation of an appropriate supervisor, and attendance at specialty clinics.
Duties:
- The post holder will be covering both general paediatrics.
- Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the specialty and formulating treatment decisions seeking advice from the consultant as appropriate.
- Running of wards with consultant cover on site during the day and consultant being off site in out of hours.
- Attendance at clinical meetings and case conferences as appropriate.
- Working within a multidisciplinary team. Communication with other team members as appropriate. Co-coordinating appropriate medical disciplines concerned with care for your specialty and communicating appropriately with general practitioners (GP’s) and community healthcare professionals
- Supervision of more junior medical staff.
- Participation in Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.
- Participation in relevant audit for the department and quality assurance procedures.
Additional support:
- Post holder will attend a Trust Induction followed by departmental induction to ensure they have access to various IT systems and policies and protocols needed in day to day work. If needed then we will provide opportunities to shadow the team for an agreed period before taking up clinical responsibilities.
- One to one relocation support will be provided free of charge.
- The Trust has an active Research and Development Unit that helps with ethical committee submissions, planning, funding and inter-departmental liaison for research projects. The appointee will be encouraged to develop research projects pertinent to their area of interest. Most of the consultants contribute actively to on-going National or Local research programmes and is keen to support junior staff in clinical research.
