Level 3 NICU Registrar

The team are looking for an experienced individual with previous NHS experience to join their team.

The successful applicant will be joining an enthusiastic, dedicated team who cover a wide range of different specialties and provide general and sub specialist paediatric care.

Main Duties:

As an ST4+ in General Paediatrics you will be expected to:

• Contribute to the middle-grade rota in Paediatric medicine.
• Review and manage acute inpatients and supervise junior trainees.
• Conduct daily ward rounds in the Children’s Ward and report to the consultant in charge.
• Participate in PAU (Paediatric Assessment Unit) cover.
• Take part in the supervision of the work of junior medical doctors in the Paediatric wards, the assessment unit, the postnatal wards, the delivery suite and the clinics.
• Attend the “post-take” ward rounds with the Consultant on-call.
• Attend specialist clinics as per area of interest.  
• Ensure children are fit for discharge.
• Become acquainted with management protocols for Paediatrics and help to update them.
• Fulfil the duty of the weekly timetable including any out-of-hours responsibilities.
• Attend an Induction Course which includes awareness training of NHS Structure and Local Trust Management.
• Share responsibility with colleagues for the day-to-day management of the paediatric department.
• Ensure delivery of a high-quality Paediatric service.
• Have awareness of the public health aspects of children’s health.
• Have responsibility for ensuring active participation in their own continuing medical education (CME).
• Actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.

This Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic and well-rounded individual who is comfortable in General Paediatrics, Paediatrics ED and Neonatology. The successful candidate will be encouraged to take on additional teaching responsibilities as well as participating in audits and quality improvement projects.

The Job

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Provide cover to the walk-in PDU for managed cases requiring ongoing medical care.
• Participate in Paediatric and Neonatal Ward Rounds and liaise with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Engage in Registrar support for paediatric outpatient clinics.
• Take on-call duties in the Emergency Department.
• Undertake safeguarding medical examinations.
• Engage in quality improvement and take trust audit responsibilities.  

The Hospital

• 350+ bed District General Hospital.
• Level 2 NICU and Paediatric Decision Unit for same day emergency care.
• The successful candidate is entitled to paid C.P.D courses registered with the RCPCH.

• This Hospital is based in a historic market town to the south east of the midlands.

The Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

• GMC Registration through MRCPCH.  
• Up to date and valid life support qualifications including APLS and NLS or equivalent.
• Comfortable working at a middle grade level.
• Has a propensity for clinical governance, research and quality improvement.

As an ST3+ Doctor in General Paediatrics and Neonatology, you will be expected to:

• Clinically manage children on the two acute children’s wards, including medical aspects of surgical patients and close liaison with doctors involved from other specialties.
• Cover for Paediatric problems on the Paediatrics A&E unit.
• Supervise and teach the more junior doctors on the Acute Children’s Wards and the Paediatrics Day Bed Unit.
• Cover both Neonatal and General Paediatrics out of hours, nights and weekends.
• Be responsible for referrals from different sources (e.g., GP, Maternity…)
• Be responsible for the discharge and care planning of CYP from the observation bay to their home, acute ward or other medical professionals.
• Take part in teaching medical students and physician assistant trainees.
• Actively participate in supervised clinics.
• Participate in the on-call rota covering nights and weekends in 1 in 10 SpR rota.

The Requirements

• GMC Registered or in process
• At least 4 years’ experience in a similar role whether in the NHS or elsewhere

As well as the above, the following are also desirable, though not necessarily essential:

• SCE or other recognised senior qualifications
