BDI Resourcing is looking to speak with any aspiring Middle Grade Docotrs in Histopathology regarding an exciting position within an NHS Trust is the beautiful South West of England! 


The post: 

  • Full and part-time applicants will be considered. 
  • For this post, up to a total of 10 programmed activities (PAs) will be spent in cellular pathology. This includes up to 9 PAs of direct clinical care and 1 PA of supporting professional activities.

Duties of the post: 

  • Participation in the cellular pathology and non-gynaecological cytology service
  • Commitment to clinico-pathological and MDT meetings.
  • The Doctor will work together with the other pathologists to contribute to the histopathology services as appropriate to the areas of clinical specialisation across the Trust.
  • Shared responsibility with the other pathologists to provide cover for periods of annual leave and short term sickness.
  • Clinical and educational supervision of junior medical staff and Biomedical Scientist Practitioners in histopathology as a shared responsibility with colleagues. The appointee will be required to devote time to these activities on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.
  • To contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D Framework.
  • To participate in audit programmes and external quality assessment (EQA).
  • To maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with professional requirements.
  • To conduct the diagnostic service in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies.
  • To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty or the Trust.

  • There are excellent opportunities for postgraduate and BMS teaching, which is encouraged. These include journal club meetings, ‘Black box’ meetings, small group teaching and fourth year medical student teaching in breast pathology. Departmental medical staff participate in the provision of problem-based learning group supervision and undergraduate OSCE examinations. Relevant training for these activities is provided by the Trust.
  • Dedicated SPAs for support in accumulating evidence for CESR support portfolio.
