Locum Consultant Anaesthetist

£88,364- £119,133

This is an exciting opportunity for an NHS experienced Anaesthetist to work as a Locum Consultant within a friendly and welcoming team. You will be providing both elective and emergency lists in the Trusts Main Theatres and the Day Surgery Unit. You will have the opportunity to work on both obstetric and general emergencies, encouraging a broad skillset.

You will be given the opportunity to collaborate with other highly skilled Consultant Anaesthetists and a wider MDT team, to ensure comprehensive and high-quality anaesthetic services are provided across the Trust.

Within your job plan you will be allocated at least 7.5 PA’s of Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 SPA. The on-call activity accounts for an additional 1.5 PA’s. If you are successful during interview, you will have the opportunity to discuss and make alterations to your indicative job plan.

The Department

You will be joining a welcoming team of 19 other Consultant Anaesthetists and Intensivists, who are supported by 11 Specialty Doctors and 2 Specialist Doctors. The close-knitted department consists of Five Specialist Registrars and currently nine trainees working at ST1/2 level from the ACCS program or Core Anaesthesia. The department also has a growing trainee establishment inclusive of seven Foundation program trainees, Anaesthesia, Medicine or the ACCS program cover a separate critical care rota.
 


Main Duties of the job

  • As part of the Consultant body, you will have clinical, teaching and organizational duties to attend to
  • Providing anaesthetic services for elective and emergency services
  • Minimizing risks and maintaining patient safety
  • Co-operation with other departments
  • Supervising junior staff as appropriate
  • Providing leadership and health-management skills
  • Encourage effective multi-disciplinary team working
  • Provide training, supervision and career development to junior doctors of
  • Contribute to the education of medical and nursing students, paramedics and trainees in other specialities as required.

Opportunities for development 

The Trust encourages all consultant staff to take advantage of the study leave program offered. You will be allocated a leave quota of 30 days every 3 years for the purpose of study and professional leave for your own development.

The Department runs an active postgraduate training programme in house. This takes the form of journal clubs and other meetings. On Friday during the academic term, there is a hospital postgraduate teaching programme covering all aspects of clinical medicine with speakers invited local, national and international speakers. 4 days are put aside per year for departmental education and audit presentations. The Department has an excellent record with exam successes and the placement of trainees into high training positions.

The department is part of the Post-graduate School of Anaesthesia, Health Education East of England whose have a handful of regional teaching centres. The department is also actively involved in the Joint Regional Course set up to provide structured teaching for the new primary and final FRCA examinations.


Requirements

In order to apply for this role, you will need:

  • GMC Registration complete (or awaiting ID check)
  • Recognized post graduate degree (EDAIC, EDIC, MRCP, FRCA, USMLE)
  • Language test (OET or IELTS)
  • ECFMG verification
  • Experience in a similar position overseas or locally (Consultant/Locum Consultant)
  • Experience working within the NHS previously
  • Experienced with obstetric and general emergency work
