This is a exciting opportunity to work within a tertiary centre for cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery and acute cardiology! The post has been created for an experienced Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist with an interest in practicing within a busy teaching and training centre. You will be serving local and regional patients and providing anaesthetic care for both elective and emergency cardiac patients.

The Department

With up to 1000 cardiac surgical cases per year and a very busy thoracic and vascular surgical programme, this is an opportunity to work within one of London’s best teaching centres for cardiothoracic anaesthesia training.

Complex and high-risk surgery is undertaken daily within the departments dedicated operating theatres, providing intensive training opportunities for speciality registrars and specialists. The team runs a busy programme of challenging cardiology catheter lab procedures including electrophysiology and transcutaneous valve replacement (TAVI).

The 21 bedded intensive care unit admits elective and emergency cardiac surgical patients, vascular surgical patients, and an increasing proportion of acute cardiology patients – including primary PCI and out of hospital arrests.

As a Specialist within the department your work and progression will be supported by the teams 10 specialist registered Cardiothoracic Anaesthetic Consultants.
 


Main Duties of the job

  • The job rota will initially be based on a 10 PA (40 hour week)
  • You will be covering the 1 in 7 on-call rota
  • Preoperative evaluation and postoperative care on the ward as well as within the cardiac intensive care unit.
  • Theatre sessions as per the job plan. This will be agreed with the clinicians prior to starting in post.
  • The workload will be split between time spent in the cardiothoracic critical care units and operating theatres and cath labs and would involve all aspects of perioperative care of the cardiothoracic surgical and cardiology patient.
  • Implementing change and monitoring compliance

Professional Development

  • The hospital has a fantastic programme of research and education with many doctors progressing through the NHS grading system and staying substantively as specialist registered consultants
  • The Trust has a number of training programmes and courses for echocardiography and cardiac theatre work.
  • Post CCT fellowships are available to undertake for the nonclinical aspects of a CESR applications.

Requirements

In order to apply for this role you will need:

  • GMC Registration complete (or awaiting ID check)
  • Recognized post graduate degree (EDAIC, EDIC, MRCP, FRCA, USMLE)
  • Language test (OET or IELTS)
  • ECFMG verification
  • Experience in a similar position overseas or locally (Specialty Doctor/Specialist/Senior Resident)
  • Experience working as a Fellow or an Advanced Trainee in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia
  • Independent TOE skills
