Senior Clinical Fellow in General Medicine

Salary - £47,306- 74,384

Location – North West

Duration – Fixed Term 1 Year

As a Senior Clinical Fellow in General Medicine in the NHS you’ll be working in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment where most of your work will be ‘hands-on’. You will be part of a consultant-led team of other registrars, clinical fellows and junior doctors and you will participate in daily ward rounds. The post holder will participate in the General Medical on calls or Acute Internal Medicine (AIM) on calls.

The Job

As a middle-grade doctor working in General Medicine in the NHS, you will be expected to:

  • Diagnose and manage patients.
  • Advise junior members of the team on how to handle patients.
  • Participate in or lead the acute medicine take.
  • Lead inpatient ward rounds.
  • Lead cardiac arrest calls.
  • Contribute to the General Medicine or specialty clinics.
  • Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties.
  • Manage the ward to avoid patient delays.

As well as clinical responsibilities, the position also includes the following professional duties:

  • Participate in clinical audits/quality improvement projects.
  • Maintain a portfolio of training.
  • Participate in continued professional development.

The Hospital

The hospital is a large state-of-the-art NHS teaching hospital. The General Internal Medicine department at the hospital has a reputation for being a very welcoming, friendly team. The hospital also comes with an excellent track record of helping international doctors get used to the NHS.

The CQC reports this hospital as ‘Good’ placing it amongst the top-performing hospitals in the area.  

The Requirements

In order to apply for this role you will need:

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification (MRCP including MRCP PACES, MRCPI, PLAB, USMLE, Sri Lankan MD etc.)
  • IELTS or OET if you are coming from overseas
  • Full GMC Registration with license to practise in process or obtained
  • Experience in a similar registrar level role whether in the NHS or non-NHS setting

As well as the above, the following are also desirable, though not necessarily essential:

  • Full MRCP
  • Sub-specialist interests in Elderly Care, Respiratory Medicine, Diabetes or Stroke Medicine
  • Right to work in the UK (Skilled Worker Visa can be sponsored for overseas applicants)
  • MRCP SCE or other recognised senior qualifications
