You will be under supervision by a Consultant Oncologist, who will provide relevant training and supervision. The tumour site specialisation is flexible, and consideration will be given if you have any specific preferences; the team would like to support and encourage you to develop specific areas of interest in Oncology and support will be given for those wishing to undertake CESR applications.
It is a standard 10PA 40-hour p/w job plan with no on-call commitments and there will be protected time for Supporting Professional Activities and admin. You’ll be encouraged to pursue further study and training, and you’ll be allocated protected study leave to pursue further post-graduate medical qualifications. The job plan will be reviewed regularly to ensure that it suits your professional development, however you can expect the following duties:
You will be working in a purpose-built cancer centre which has a designated day-unit, out-patient clinics for patients receiving SACT for cancer and a bespoke Oncology ward. It is well-supported by consultants and an experienced nursing team. The Acute Oncology Service manages inpatients and emergency admissions. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team including Consultants, Specialists, Specialty Doctors, Training Doctors, Junior Doctors, as well as Nurses, Managers and Rota coordinators. There is a dedicated SAS tutor who provides support and advise in post and facilitate further education and training.
