Specialty Doctor in Acute/General Medicine
BDI Resourcing are looking for a keen Specialty Doctor in Acute Medicine to help serve a close-knit community in Wales!
The location:
- Wales is a country in the South West of the United Kingdom and is popular for its beautiful coastline, mountainous national parks and distinctive Welsh language. The capital of Wales is Cardiff which is a coastal city with an extensive array of bars and restaurants and a city full of history and culture.
- Cardiff is one of the greenest cities in the UK, with parks spread across the entire city but the most popular being Bute Park located right in the city centre. Also sitting in the centre, is Cardiff castle and Principality Stadium – the National Stadium. Cardiff is also regularly voted one of the top UK shopping destinations as it has over 100 shops to choose from in St. David’s shopping centre and a number of historic shopping arcades.
The Post
- The successful candidates will work under the supervision of the Consultants in the care of acute, general medical inpatients with the opportunity to participate in Ambulatory Care as well as develop your procedural skills.
Duties of post:
- Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients.
- Be required to provide a senior level of support to the department.
- Assess and manage where appropriate patients with a range of conditions within acute medicine.
- Attend ward rounds both with the consultants. The Specialty Doctor may be responsible for unaccompanied ward rounds.
- Perform additional duties in exceptional circumstances during emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.
- Actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit. Regular contribution to departmental meetings, journal club and medical grand rounds of the hospital.

- They will have dedicated support and will facilitate ongoing postgraduate qualifications and additional courses. (ie. MRCP SCE)

As a Specialty Doctor in General Medicine, you will play a crucial role in managing and treating patients with acute medical conditions and ensuring that they receive timely and appropriate care.
You will work as a key part of a dynamic and welcoming General Medicine service within the Health Board. The department have very recently had a business case approved to bring on one Specialty Doctor in addition to three SHOs.

Main Duties:
You will be responsible for the routine and emergency admission of patients.
You’ll be expected to participate in the General Medicine on call rota.
You will be required to attend MDT (Multi-Disciplinary Team) meetings and liaise with colleagues, GPs and nurses to help ensure patients presenting a broad range of issues are given a high standard of care.
You will carry out daily ward rounds to assess progress of patients, you’ll also ensure that all treatments ordered are carried out.
You’ll be required to teach and supervise junior doctors within department as well as occasionally present lectures to nursing staff to assist with their development.
You’ll need to keep accurate patient notes and ensure paperwork is processed on time.
You’ll be expected to keep your clinical procedures and knowledge up to date. Your portfolio will need to be regularly updated. You will be provided a period of study leave to assist you with this.

It has a long-standing academic partnership with a local university so there are plenty of opportunities to teach medicine students alongside performing your clinical duties. The hospital has a friendly cosmopolitan workforce, you will be welcomed as an important part of the team. The hospital is based on the south coast of Wales, near to cities like Swansea and Cardiff. You can live in ether of these cities if you prefer a more urban lifestyle or you can choose to live just next to the hospital about 20 minutes from either city. South Wales has some of the lowest living costs in the whole of the UK. The region also promotes quite a healthy lifestyle as you’ll be far away from the pollution of larger cities and around some stunning scenery.
Requirements:

Role:
- Take care of patients on the ward, under the supervision of the consultant.
