The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) is a 52 bedded area for the assessment and treatment of all acute medical admissions. Within the AMU, the six bedded higher monitoring unit (HMU) cares for the most unwell patients, providing 2:1 nursing, continuous monitoring and non-invasive respiratory support.
The Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit (AECU) has recently moved to a spacious new area and is expanding.
The department is active in research and education, and has a very strong background in point of care ultrasound, offering frequent courses, allowing both our medical and nursing staff to become qualified.
