The chosen Appointee will work as a Specialty Doctor in Acute Medicine/SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care). The department provides care for a variety of different General Medicine and Acute Medicine patients, It would be best suited for Doctors who would like to be part of a rapidly growing team.
As a Specialty Doctor you will be making senior decisions within the department and team, you will have a consultant working above you if you come to struggle with difficult situations. You are expecting to support other Registrars and Juniors around you however, you will have some designated time within your own job plan to develop your clinical skills.
This post is perfect for doctors who would like to go through the CESR route to become a Consultant in the near future. There are no on calls required but that could change in the future depending on the needs of the department.

A large teaching hospital in Birmingham is looking for an ambitious and driven doctor to join them as a Registar in Anaesthetics, with a particular focus on Obstetrics & Gynaecology - this will be a busy job in a tertiary referral centre serving regional, national and international patients. If successful you would be joining one of the largest anaesthetic teams in the country with over 200 Consultants, however based at an adjoing dedicated Women's Hospital. The hospital is the Regional referral centre for Obstetrics and houses the Regional Neonatal Unit and the Fetal Medicine Department. Despite the size of the Trust team, the department have fostered a supportive and positive workplace where culture is paramount.
This role offers exposure to high risk obstetric anaesthesia, maternal medicine and an opportunity to engage in education (including simulation). The successful candidate will also be invited to attend multidisciplinary high risk antenatal clinics, and be involved with the delivery of anaesthesia in complex cases. This site is one of the few centres in the UK offering LASER treatment for twin-twin transfusion syndrome, so there is opportunity to deliver anaesthesia to these patients too. The Obstetric Anaesthetist Consultant group includes Consultants with interests in education and training, wellbeing, sustainability, ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia, patient safety, governance, leadership and management and information technology; further enhancing this opportuntity to CESR applicants hoping to gain more specific exposure in these areas. The size and nature of the department lends itself to supporting audit, quality improvement, service development and research projects in a variety of areas.
