A Snapshot into.. Hull

Hull, or Kingston upon Hull, is a port City in East Yorkshire that sits on the northern shore of the Humber Estuary, a few miles inland from the East Coast of England. Hull is home to England’s largest parish church and has become one of the UK’s most talked-about destinations, with Rough Guides placing Hull in their worldwide ‘top 10 cities to visit’! Hull itself has an estimated population of 284,321.

Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust operates from two main sites: Castle Hill Hospital and Hull Royal Infirmary. The Trust provide a full range of acute services to the people of Hull and East Yorkshire area as well as several specialist services to North Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire.

  • William Wilberforce – the famous leader of the abolitionist movement that put an end to slavery in Britain, was born in Hull

Education in Hull

Hull is also home to The University of Hull, who not only have an exclusive partnership with Team GB but are also proud of academic excellence and life changing resource – with the teaching awared Silver (2017) and departments being recognized for their research. The Universities single site campus provides all that students need, with versatile work spaces, cafes, venues, theatres, bars, nightlife and plenty of on campus sports.
 

Things to do in Hull:

The Deep (Aquarium)
Hull is blessed to be home to the spectacular aquarium - The Deep. The Deep is home to an array of sea life with a whopping 3,500 fish including a pair of Green Sawfish, sharks, rays and a colony of Gentoo penguins.

Old Town
Hull’s Old Town is a hidden treasure where its cobbled High Street is surrounded by reminders of Hull’s past. Famous as the home of William Wilberforce and for the infamous parlour Ye Olde White Hart, where the English Civil War was allegedly plotted. The old town is home to many of Hull’s listed buildings, real ale pubs and numerous cobbled streets lined with independent cafes and stores.

Museums and Galleries
There are a number of museums and galleries waiting to be discovered within Hull, many of which offer free entry! The history of the city can be seen first hand when visiting the Street Life Museum, situated in the historic Old Town, which links many more museums together, including the East Riding Museum of Archaeology and the Ferens Art Gallery.

The Humber Bridge
The world’s longest single-span suspension bridge when it opened in 1981, the Humber Bridge is an impressive sight that includes its own country park. The Bridge now remains the longest in the world in which people can walk or cycle across. Walk or cycle across the pedestrian walkway and high above the broad estuary of the River Humber, taking in views of Hull’s cobbled Old Town and revitalised waterfront.
