A Snapshot into.. Derby

Derby is a City on the banks of the River Derwent in Derbyshire County, situated in the East Midlands. The thriving city boasts an excellent range of attractions, restaurants, parks, open spaces, entertainment venues and businesses, with an estimated population of 259,653.

The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust consists of the following five hospitals; Royal Derby Hospital, Queens Hospital Burton, London Road Community Hospital, Samuel Johnson Community Hospital and Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital. The Royal Derby Hospital has 1,159 beds and provides state of the art care to around one million patients from Derby and the surrounding areas every year, rated Good by the CQC. With 35 operating theatres, four linear accelerators for treating cancer patients, two MRI scanners and a Da Vinci surgical robot, the Royal provides the highest standards of care in a modern environment, ensuring the best possible care for patients.

Education in Derby:

According to the information available on the government website, Darby is home to 20 Nursery/Infant Schools, 61 Primary Schools, 17 Secondary Schools and a further 8 Special Schools. With three different campuses, the University can offer a broad range of experiences and further education opportunities.

Derby Museum and Art Gallery

With longstanding and temporary exhibits, the Museum and Art Gallery boasts paintings and artefacts that are of both local and international significance. The exhibitions are changed and updated regularly, which means visitors will never be seeing the same thing twice! The Museum also runs education and learning programmes, and hold events and exhibitions with the purpose of sharing knowledge and inspiring creativity amongst the people of Derby.
 

Darley Park

Darley Park is a large, picturesque and popular park situated within walking distance of the city centre. It is located on the River Derwent at the gateway to the World Heritage Site. The park is popular with visitors from across the County and is a peaceful place to escape city life. It hosts many events throughout the year, including the classical Darley Park Concert

Shopping in Cathedral Quarter and ‘Intu’ Shopping Centre

Centrally located in the heart of the bustling city, intu Derby is a vibrant hub of retail, leisure and dining facilities, home to some of the world’s biggest brands with a host of eateries and entertainment on offer.
