A snapshot into... Exeter

Exeter is an ancient city on the River Exe, located in Devon, southwest England. The city is brimming with local arts, historic buildings and a real sense of Devonshire pride. Exeter has a population of 128,900 and is at the heart of a travel to work area of over 470,000 residents.

Facts About Exeter

  • According to research Exeter is the safest place in England to drive a car. It turns out that the roads here are as much as 50% safer than those in the rest of the country!  
  • Famous people that come from Exeter include JK Rowling, Chris Martin, Tommy Cooper and William Temple
  • The Cathedral of St Peter dates back to 1050 and was rebuilt in 1258  in decorative gothic style
  • Underneath Exeter’s high street, there is a complex trail of underground passages that were once used to create a completely unique water system, allowing clean water to be filtered through from the natural springs outside of the city. These date as far back as the 14th century.

Education in Exeter

There are 40 primary schools, 28 secondary schools and 17 colleges and sixth forms in Exeter. Exeter is also known for it’s university which is home to 23,500 students in more than 30 academic disciplines. It’s campuses offer world-class facilities.

Exeter Cathedral

Exeter Cathedral is one of the oldest and most beautiful Cathedrals in England. Located in the centre of the city, there has been a Cathedral on the present site for nearly one thousand years. Exeter Quay

Exeter's Historic Quayside is one of the most attractive areas of the city, popular with locals and visitors alike for its fascinating history, interesting architecture and lively pubs and restaurants. Throughout the year events are held around the quay, everything from 10k runs to live music.
