Most of you will be aware that the GMC accept the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) for consideration for GMC registration.
The USMLE is a three-part exam for medical licensing in the United States. The USMLE evaluates a physician's ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles, as well as exhibit core patient-centered abilities, that are critical in health and disease and provide the foundation for safe and successful patient care.
A committee made up of individuals from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and the general public governs the USMLE. This committee is in charge of the program's general direction, as well as identifying and approving scoring and pass/fail processes, as well as any important policies and procedures.
Please note, you will be expected to have passed Step 2 CS on or before March 13th, 2020 and passed Step 1 and Step 2 CK at any time in order to use USMLE for your registration. If you desire to achieve FULL registration, you must still fulfil the standards set out by the GMC for all candidates. This will include having passed OET/IELTS. You can view the full list of requirements for GMC registration here.
The process is the same as if you used any other GMC approved postgraduate qualification:
You need an acceptable pattern of internship in order to be eligible for FULL GMC registration. You will also need to provide details of your experience for the last five years as well as your registration or licensing history.
If the GMC require further information, they will ask you, and you should respond appropriately. If your situation changes, you should notify them as soon as possible. Once you have received confirmation of your GMC registration you will be eligible to work in the UK!
