A snapshot into... Eastbourne!

On the southeast coast of England sits the popular resort town Eastbourne. Victorian hotels, the 19th-century Eastbourne Pier, and a bandstand from the 1930s may all be found on the seafront. There are numerous reasons why many flock to Eastbourne to spend time with family, it was even named Britain's most family-friendly holiday location in a study by Virgin Money Travel Insurance.

Eastbourne and the NHS

Eastbourne District General Hospital is a part of East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and is located on the outskirts of Eastbourne town centre.

The hospital has a number of medical and surgical wards and specialist units, a 24-hour Emergency Department and a full range of diagnostic services including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computer Tomography (CT) and Interventional Radiotherapy. Hyper acute and acute stroke services are based here and the hospital also has a midwife-led Maternity Unit.

There are around 525,000 people who live in East Sussex and we are one of the largest organisations in the county. We employ over 7,000 dedicated staff with an annual turnover of £380 million.

Training and development for all levels of staff is available both in-house and externally. There is a comprehensive induction training, clinical supervision, access to Libraries at Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne DGH. Access to on-site childcare coordinator who will advise and assist with childcare. On-site childcare facilities at Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne DGH and holiday playscheme.

Facts about Eastbourne

• It's the sunniest place in the UK. It's held this title since July 1911 when it had 383.9 hours of sun that month.
• There are Roman remains that are beneath the town. There is a Roman bath along with a section of pavement between Eastbourne Pier and the Redoubt Fortress.
• It's a huge tourist town and has over 4.9 million visitors each year
• Many famous films have been shot here including Harry Potter, James Bond The Living Daylights and Pearl Harbour!

The University of Brighton is a public university based on four campuses in Brighton and Eastbourne on the south coast of England. Its roots can be traced back to 1858 when the Brighton School of Art was opened in the Royal Pavilion.
