A snapshot into... Telford

Known as the birthplace of the industrial revolution, Telford blends the best of the old and new, offering locals a good standard of living and drawing more than 3.6 million tourists annually. The town, which still carries the label "town of a thousand trees," also has one of the biggest town parks in the country, which frequently stages musical and entertainment events. Telford has a variety of historic borough and market towns, a thriving nightlife, and attractions for all tastes.

Telford and the NHS

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of district general hospital services for nearly half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.

Recently the Princess Royal Hospital became the main specialist centre for inpatient head and neck surgery with the establishment of a new Head and Neck ward and enhanced outpatient facilities. It also became the main centre for inpatient Women and Children’s services following the opening of the Shropshire Women and Children’s Centre in September 2014.

  • Telford has been known as the Birthplace of Industrial revolution because it is a home of Coalbrookdale. The Ironbridge Gorge area was also associated with the Industrial Revolution.
  • Shropshire which is 20 minutes from Telford is home to the world’s first skyscraper!
  • The Ironbridge Gorge is considered as one of the famous destinations in Telford. It is located at the southern boundaries. The gorge is included in the World Heritage Site of UNESCO.

Telford has a number of fantastic colleges that offer A levels as well as a variety of additional courses.

University of Wolverhampton is a large UK university based in the West Midlands, offering undergraduate degrees and postgraduate courses across 4 faculties. The University of Wolverhampton’s first Regional Learning Centre, University Centre Telford has been in operation since April 2015.

Hoo Zoo & Dinosaur World

Telford Town Park

Telford Town Park is set in the heart of Telford adjacent to South water and Telford Shopping Centre. The park offers a wide range of facilities and activities from long walks with beautiful scenery to hours, multi-use games arena, Toddlers sand and Play Area, Trim Trail, large slide and spider’s web climbing frame.

Ironbridge Gorge Museums

The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust owns and operates ten museums across the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.
