A Snapshot into.. Bradford

Bradford is a City in the Northern English county of West Yorkshire, with an estimated current population of 534,300; making it one of the largest Cities in the UK. Located by the picturesque Pennine mountains, Bradford is a magnificent city for culture, history, and a unique taste of Yorkshire life. Its beautiful location makes it perfect for exploring the countryside and getting to grips with nature.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for providing hospital services for the people of Bradford and other communities across Yorkshire, serving a core population of around 500,000 people and providing specialized services for some 1.1 million. The Trust employs around 5,500 staff over several sites, of which the two largest are Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital.

• Bradford has been named Curry Capital of Britain for five years running, annually soaking up praise for its fine curry restaurants.
• Bradford is home to the biggest water fountain in the country
• The City is home to the oldest concert hall still in use in the UK - St George’s Hall opened on 29 August 1853
• In 2009, Bradford roundly beat Cannes, Venice and LA to be named the world’s first UNESCO City of Film. Bradford was awarded the title for its long association with filmmaking, going back to the very start of cinema.
• David Hockney, the Bronte sisters, JB Priestley, Frederick Delius, Dynamo and One Direction’s Zayn Malik are just some of the famous names from Bradford.
• Bradford invented school dinners! The UK’s first state-funded meals were served up at a Bradford primary school in 1906 in response to children collapsing from hunger. The initiative was soon rolled out nationally under the Provision Of School Meals Act.

Bradford Alhambra Theatre

The Bradford Alhambra is one of the City’s largest theatres. Originally built in 1913, the theatre is now a listed building with gorgeous and iconic architecture that is recognizable from the Bradford skyline. The theatre has hosted large and touring shows from all genres, including musicals, drama, dance, and even shows exploring topics such as science

National Media Museum

The National Media Museum is a haven for pop culture lovers and anyone interested in the vast amounts of media society consumes every day. The museum features galleries highlighting television, animation, photography, video games, film, radio and the Internet. It houses one of the most comprehensive collection of media items, with over 3,500,000 pieces.

Lister Park

Lister Park is one of Bradford’s largest and most popular public parks. The scenery here is beautiful, making it a lovely location to relax on a sunny day. There is plenty to do, with a boating lake, tennis and basketball courts, and a children’s playground. One of the park’s highlights is the Mughal Water Garden. This is a unique garden featuring Islamic and Indian architecture, all focused around water channels and pools to create a calming and picturesque environment.

The Broadway Shopping Centre

There is no better place in Bradford to do some shopping than The Broadway. Sat in the heart of Bradford amongst several transport links, The Broadway is Bradford’s new leisure and retail complex, featuring over 90 big name brands, chain stores and restaurants in one place.

Bradford City Park

Bradford City Park is a public space in the heart of the city that surrounds the historic Bradford City Hall. The park features manicured gardens as well as a large event space that is regularly used for community events, exhibitions, and market stalls. Stop by the mirror pool which holds the highest fountain in Britain, with water that can reach 30 metres high
