Junior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine

This is a fantastic opportunity for Emergency Medicine doctors looking for a Junior Clinical Fellow position in the NHS. The successful candidate will take part in the initial evaluation and treatment of patients. They will be able to benefit from the clinical guidance provided by the ED Middle Grades and Consultants. They will work a full shift schedule and take part in the FY2 rota. Interest in doing research and participating in audit projects will be encouraged.

Main Duties:

You will receive a clear job plan which will be agreed with the department before joining the department and this will be reviewed annually. The average weekly hours are 44 hours per week. The position is initially for 1 year in the first instance, which may be extendable subject to satisfactory appraisal and progression with possible further progression to Senior Clinical Fellow posts.

All new starters will go through a supernumerary period so please be assured that lots of support will be provided in order to help doctors adapt and get up to speed as quickly as possible. Following the initial training and induction, you will be shadowing the other ED doctors in the department for a few weeks before gradually starting on the FY2 rota.

In the hospital's Postgraduate Centre, regular weekly and monthly meetings take place. Additionally, there is a programme for teaching in the emergency department. A Consultant will be assigned to serve as each post holder's educational supervisor to guide your development and advance from this position.

The Department and Hospital:

The opportunity is for the District General and Teaching Hospital that has a ‘Good’ CQC rating. Our department delivers services to over 450,000 people in the North London region.   The Trust sees over 100,000 patients each year with around 20% of attendances being children. The ED has a Clinical Decision Unit and an Urgent Care Centre (UCC) was also opened in 2011. The department is a designated Trauma Unit, as part of the North East London and Essex Trauma Network.

We are one of three main teaching campuses with strong links to one of the most prestigious medical colleges, University College London (UCL). The Trust has a well-established reputation for postgraduate training and clinical research, as well as a strong dedication to providing high quality patient care. Therefore, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take part in departmental teaching events and quality improvement projects. 

Location:

The Trust is located in a beautiful part of North London and it is surrounded by green spaces. North London is a great location to live in given its excellent transport links to Central London. Central London is less than 10 minutes away if travelling by tube. There is a large international community in the local area and plenty of things to do and places to visit. Luton Airport is less than 1 hour away whilst Heathrow Airport is only 1 hour 15 minutes away as well. For any doctors relocating with children, there is large number of ‘Good’ to ‘Outstanding’ rated schools in the local area.

Requirements:

• Full GMC membership
• Emergency Medicine specific post at FY2 level or above, at least 4 months, seeing adults and children
• At least 4 months experience working in a dedicated acute medical ward
• ALS certified
• Must have been in a training programme or rotation such as Foundation programme

Desirable:

• UK or Irish experience
• ATLS certified
• Experience in acute medicine and/or orthopaedics
