Passing FRCR Radiology

  • May 23, 2022

Here at BDI Resourcing we are continually striving to help our IMG community with their Royal College examinations. We believe the best way to do this is to showcase information, tips and tricks from Doctors just like yourself, who have recently passed these examinations.

In this article we have teamed up with Dr Awal who has recently passed FRCR Radiology! Dr Awal has provided us with resources as well as his personal experience with the exams in order to give those currently studying for FRCR a head start!

What experiences have you had in radiology so far?

I have been practicing as a Consultant Radiologist in India for the last 4 years. Radiology is an interesting branch with an infinite amount of knowledge to be grasped. I have also been actively teaching and guiding FRCR candidates all over the world though social media groups (Telegram, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and the website www.radiologyvibes.com. It has been a great experience connecting with radiologists worldwide.

What was your main motivation for sitting FRCR?

Exams like FRCR and EDiR provide you constant motivation towards academic and professional growth.

Can you give us your five top tips on how to pass FRCR?

  1. Everything comes at the right time. Be patient for the slots.
  2. Study smart, especially if you’re a working radiologist.
  3. Devise your own game plan before preparation, rather than blindly following others. Remember, your study pattern is unique to you. Choose books according to your study pattern.
  4. Have the warrior mindset. Appear for all exams with the mindset to win and only win. Failure should not be an option.
  5. Be active in group discussions and on FRCR based social medial groups.

What resources did you use to pass FRCR?

I have a wide range of resources which I read according to the particular module. There are many guides available online regarding what to study.

What was the biggest challenge for you?

Battling poor health along with work and preparation.

What are your plans for the future?

To continue to strive towards academic and professional excellence in Radiology. My next aim is to add 500 more images to the FRCR anatomy mock exam sets on Radiology Vibes dot com. Currently I am working on rapid reporting sets for the website as well.
