TB Testing - What to expect from your appointment

  • July 29, 2022

TB tests are a requirement for some visa applications (check if you will need one here)

If your home country is on this list then you will need to make an appointment. Try to make an appointment via phone or try emailing them. Going there and trying to get an appointment usually will lead to being turned away, so to avoid wasting your time – plan ahead.

Please bear in mind that you will need your passport number so if you do not have your passport or you are waiting for your new

When attending your appointment

On the day of your appointment bring your passport, Covid vaccination card, passport size 2 Photos, and details of your United Kingdom working place or university (this can be a tentative address).

Some test centres won’t have card payment facilities so make sure you look up how much it will cost in advance and bring the correct amount in cash.

How the test will be completed

During your appointment they will take a chest x-ray. Give yourself enough time for the results please allow 1-3 hours. If you have the slightest shadow in your chest x-ray you will be failed in your test.

Do not worry several other medical conditions can cause this. In this instance you will be asked to produce three sputum samples in three consecutive days. If sputum report is negative, you will be given “pass “for your tuberculosis test and certificate will be issued!

How long will this result be valid for?

This TB test certificate will be valid for six months. Thus, here at BDI Resourcing we would advise you to do the test well before you are due to commence work here in the UK.

TB tests for children

All children must see a clinician who’ll decide if they need a chest x-ray. Children under 11 will not normally have a chest x-ray.  If the clinician decides your child does not have TB they’ll give you a certificate.
